Stratford Ontario

Stratford Shakespeare Festival

Prospero
Our revels now are ended. These our actors,
As I foretold you, were all spirits, and
Are melted into air, into thin air:
And like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capp'd tow'rs, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve,
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
As dreams are made on; and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep.

The Tempest Act 4, scene 1, 148-158

Well that is Shakespeare for you. What great theatre is all about.

Who could resist such an invitation? A pronouncement in a magical scene in The Tempest that subliminally invites our return to revisit "The cloud-capp'd tow'rs, the gorgeous palaces". Prospero the magician knew what he was doing.

Shakespeare has a way with words. They can cause a hard-core thinker to  buckle at the knees in awe.

And that is just the half of it. The audacity, the drama, the antics, the challenges, the heart wrenching tragedies, the brutality the side-splitting humour. The characters that leap out into the thin air that Shakespeare created in his plays gave birth and life to human nature as we know it.

Harold Bloom argues this idea so eloquently in his book "Shakespeare: The Invention of the Human."

And here in fair Stratford in South Western Ontario there is 'The Stratford Shakespeare Festival' waiting to welcome you and fetch thee to the "cloud -capp'd tow'rs, the gorgeous palaces". Yield to it, tarry not.

Tarry a moment that was last season. You may have missed it.

Ah! But then there is Falstaff.

See him as the lusty star in "The Merry Wives of Windsor" this Season at Stratford! He can delight, befuddle, dazzle and have you weeping with laughter all at the same time!

A psychotherapist's Nemesis.

"O, she did so course o'er my exteriors with such a greedy intention, that the appetite of her eye did seem to scorch me up like a burning-glass!"

Says he, this is early in the play; the plot definitely thickens, you have to be there!.

Enjoy the best at Stratford Shakespeare Festival.
